It’s definitely a great place to live with your family. If you’re looking for a way to bond with your child who is interested in basketball, then why not practice the sport together. You can do that by coming up with a training regimen or you can look for one on the Internet as a guide.

Basketball Training in Woodbridge, VA You Can Do with Your Child

If you don’t know where to start in coming up with a training regimen, here’s a guide that you can use. You can start out with 6 minutes and build up from there. Make sure that you match the regimen to the skill level of your child. That way, they won’t feel discouraged to play. Support your child in their basketball dreams with these activities:

At least 5 minutes of Jogging

Jogging allows your child to warm up for the amount of running they will do later. This helps your child’s lungs get accustomed to the physical activity they will be doing as they perform drills. At least 5 minutes of jogging will do, but if you think you and your child can do more, then add a few more minutes into it.

At least 6 minutes of dribbling without defense

Dribbling is one of the fundamental skills in basketball and they need to get used to the ball’s size and the amount of force they need to exert. That way, they won’t make any dribbling mistakes when they move from one area of the court to another.

At least 6 minutes of layups with no defense

This is where they run toward the hoop and perform a layup. With this practice, they’ll be more accustomed to shooting close to the hoop and jumping when they score.

At least 6 minutes of running your offense with no defense

Running and knowing your form when dribbling is crucial. That’s why you must put this into practice, even without a person blocking their way first.

At least 6 minutes of attacking a live defender 1v1 full court

Now, this is where you can help your child with their attacks. Having you try and take the ball from them will help them learn what to do when they have someone trailing them. Of course, if your child is still a beginner, make sure to adjust to their skills.

At least 6 minutes of layups with trailing defenders

This is another drill you can do with your child. And just like the previous one, make sure to adjust their skill level and move up, so they can adapt.
